This is the second letter in the ‘LETTERS TO OUR CHILDREN’ project I have started with other moms/photographers on our blogs. From here just visit Fiona’s Blog to read her letter & keep following the circle back to me.
Father’s day was just last weekend so I figured this would be the perfect letter to devote to your dad. To tell you just how much he loves you. Not that you would ever have any doubts. He has made sure of that.
It seems that a lot of fathers always wish to have a son. I understand why…and I know that your daddy would have been thrilled to have a boy too. But he was honestly hoping for a little girl. You:)
I remember a few days after you were born, I woke up in the hospital to find myself alone in my room. I went looking for your daddy….he had snuck down to the NICU to see you. He had you cuddled on his chest, tucked in under his shirt. Giving you the extra love you needed to grow strong and healthy to come home with us. He was already looking out for you baby girl. Already protecting you and keeping you safe. Right from the beginning.
As you have grown older, I have always felt so blessed that we have this man in our lives. Your dad is one very special person. He is a dad who pretends to bake cupcakes with you. He sings you made-up silly songs. He makes you (well us) breakfast, and lunches, and suppers. He gives you kisses and hugs and cuddles. He makes you laugh and holds you if you cry. He has pretend voices for your stuffed toys…especially baby. He swings you around in the air until he is dizzy. He finds you shells and rocks and pinecones. He is nurturing a relationship full of laughter and inside jokes that will be just for you (as you know…you make an awfully good pillow). He is making sure that you know you are loved no matter what.
Lately you have been a little obsessed with asking where things come from. The food we eat, your toys, and yourself. I tell you that you are both part mommy and part daddy. I pray that you will be so much like him. He is kind and generous, loyal and hardworking. He is laid-back and relaxed about life. He is intelligent and funny, loving and honest. He is everything I hope that you will be too baby girl. You have so much to learn from your daddy. He is showing you a wonderful example of how to live your life.
You are living your life in a “mommy phase” right now. You want me to rock you to sleep, to sit in the back with you in the car, to sit beside you, to help you, to be everything all the time. I treasure these moments…because I know it won’t always be this way. You will soon realize that daddy is a bit more fun than mommy:) I know that you two will be close and this makes me so happy. You are so blessed to have a daddy like yours. This is just a letter to remind you. You can read this when you’re older and look back knowing that he was always there with you, every step of the way…….
We love you sweet girl.
